| DESCRIPTION: The Towson Chamber of Commerce, Inc. has been given a grant to beautify the tree wells and hang flower baskets in and around the Towson core.
Bids have been sent out to ten landscaping companies and their proposals are due back to the Chamber by Friday, March 7th. Planting should start in Towson, by the end of April, first week of May. However, this grant does not include maintenance. The Chamber needs to raise between $10,000 and $20,000 to cover the cost of a six month maintenance program.
In order to raise funds for this project, we are asking for $600 to sponsor a 3 x 3 Butterfly. The Butterflies will be painted by local artists and then hung throughout Towson. Sponsors can pick a design that artists submit or sponsors can pick an artist that has been approved by the committee and request the butterfly be decorated to their specifications.
Kate Mansperger for Towson Arts Collective and Cindy Bohawn from Plaza Artist Materials are currently sending applications to local artists that might be interested in painting the Butterflies. Applications can also be found on our website www.towsonchamber.com Artists will be paid $150 to paint the Butterfly and will receive 10% of it selling price after it is actioned off.
The Butterflies will be displayed through September (like they did with the Crabs downtown). In September the Butterflies will be auctioned off to cover tree well and Flower Basket maintenance. The great news is we get a triple bonus for this beautification program. We will have beautiful flower beds, hanging flower baskets and whimsical butterflies too!

| Towsontown Spring Festival |
|
| DESCRIPTION: Come Celebrate Spring!
May 3th & 4th
Saturday: 10:00 am– 7:00 pm
Sunday: 1:00 p.m. – 7:00 pm
The Towsontown Spring Festival started 41 years ago as the Towsontown Art Exhibit. It was held in the Baltimore County Courtyard and in 1968 it joined the Bicentennial Celebration.
Artists from the Towson School of Fine Arts exhibited their work. A distinguished panel of judges announced the awards in various categories, including a special show for young people.
Campus Hill Community Association has some of the favorite booths among the teenagers serving lemon and peppermint sticks. Dressed in colonial costume, residents of the community were busy throughout the day preparing the refreshments as the crowds visited them at the corner of Washington and West Pennsylvania.
Today with the help of 100’s of volunteers, sponsors and many Baltimore County Agencies, the Towsontown Spring Festival has turned into the largest outdoor festival in Maryland and one of the largest on the east coast. Approximately 250,000 visitors attend the two day event with more than 450 vendors to satisfy the appetites of our patrons. In addition there are four entertainment stages with over 50 acts and numerous national attractions.
This year we are again dedicating the festival to the men and women who serve our country. Opening ceremonies are held at the corner of Washington and Pennsylvania Avenues at 12:00 pm Saturday, May 4th. Prior to opening ceremonies there will be Bag Pipers, Color Guard and the Geico Gecco.
Bring your family and friends to enjoy all our wonderful summertime foods, unique vendors and the variety of entertainment.
Please we request that you leave your puppies and dogs home!
Keep this Wonderful Towson Tradition Alive!
